That Time of Year…

… When I needed to make more laundry detergent! I started making my own detergent from scratch last year and was really happy with how my clothes turned out when I used it. Especially with drying them on the line.

All the ingredients on Amazon.com set me back about $33 (+/-) and lasted a little longer than a year. I have an HE washer so I scoop the detergent and pour it into the front-loading barrel of my washer.

It took me about 20 minutes to put this together tonight and I took pics to share!

I bought everything off Amazon because Im a Prime junkie. 2 day shipping? Yes please. Except the UnStoppables.. I picked those up at Costco months ago. You dont have to use them in your detergent, but I like the scent they add to the towels and clothes.

Shredding the Fels-Naptha is really the only part that feels like work. Some people use a food processor, but I dont want to risk using my nice kitchen equipment. I like the grater just fine.

Mixing all the ingredients

The first time I made this detergent, I didn’t use the bag.. I put everything in the jar and thought I could mix it around effectively enough. I was wrong! I ended up pouring it all out and using a trash bag to mix it. I tie the top of the bag in a knot and then roll the bag around for a bit to make sure it was all distributed evenly. Then I cut one of the corners off so I had a nice controlled pour into the jar.

Detergent all mixed and poured into it's container.

Success! I love doing DIY things like this and I always feel good when I can be frugal and efficient for my family.
